Thomas of Lancaster built Dunstanburgh as a stronghold against King Edward II. Positioned strategically on a rocky headland, it had natural defenses against sea and land attacks. Artists and Photographers are inspired by the location; Dunstanburgh’s eerie silhouette has inspired painters like J.M.W. Turner who’s sketch books and paintings included his depiction of the ruins. Now part of English Heritage, it’s home to seabirds like kittiwakes and fulmars. This Blue hour long exposure created an eerie atmosphere that I hope suits the its past.

Please note: due to its delicate surface, extra care is recommended when handling Hahnemühle Photorag prints. While Photorag is ideal for mounting, its cotton texture means the edges can fray if not handled with care.
